Brushing your labradoodle with a slicker brush might seem like a big challenge. But once you get the hang of it, you won't be able to do without it.
In this blog, you'll learn step-by-step how to use the correct technique. This way, your doodle will always have a beautiful, tangle-free coat. Let's go!
Using a slicker brush in 7 steps:
1. Work from bottom to top, with the direction of hair growth
Start at the bottom of the paws and work your way up to the belly. Then from the belly to the back. Finally, from the tail to the neck.
2. Move the brush in the direction of the handle
3. Use short, gentle strokes
Stroke with the brush as if you were petting.
4. Brush layer by layer
Hold the hair you still need to brush with one hand. Release it little by little as you brush with your other hand. The smaller the layers you take, the less you pull on the coat.
5. Brush from the skin
Make sure you don't just brush the top, but really from the skin. If you forget the underside of the coat, you'll get matting.
6. Be careful with the tail
Brushing the tail is sensitive. Therefore, hold the tailbone firmly and support it. First, brush the hair on the left side thoroughly and then on the right side.
7. Give a lot of attention during brushing
This way, it remains a pleasant moment for both you and your dog.
Extra tips:
-
Pay attention to the 5th toe on the front paws. It is very painful if you brush over it.
- After brushing, check with a comb for any remaining tangles in the coat.
- After brushing, spray the coat with coat spray. This prevents tangles and reduces moisture loss, making the coat shine beautifully.
